A meeting between the two superpower leaders has already been scheduled, but the planned meeting at the end of March was canceled by the United States mainly because of the war in Iran.
The two are to meet in Beijing on May 14 and 15, according to the United States. China has not yet officially confirmed the meeting in the Chinese capital - but has previously indicated it was prepared to postpone the planned meeting.
Washington had previously suggested a meeting was unlikely while the war in Iran continues, but the White House has not confirmed that.
The two leaders, Xi and Trump, met for a bilateral meeting on October 30, 2025, in Busan, South Korea.
