More than 250,000 people protested against the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AFD) in Munich on Saturday, according to German authorities.

Even in several other German cities, comprehensive protests were held on Saturday, ahead of the parliamentary election on February 23.

The demonstrators also criticized the conservative CDU, which many believe is breaking the so-called "firewall" by seeking AFD's support to push through tougher asylum laws. Previously, AFD had been kept away from all influence – something that has been given the name "firewall".

CDU party leader Friedrich Merz denied on Monday that they would cooperate with AFD.

Last weekend, comprehensive protests were also held against cooperation with the far-right in Germany
