The new government will be the fourth in a year.
Among the minister candidates are, among others, the former Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, the former Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, and the right-wing conservative regional politician Xavier Bertrand.
The new government will be announced by President Macron and the new Prime Minister François Bayrou. He has said that a new government should be in place "by Christmas". The two are said to have had several conversations on Sunday, and the Prime Minister's priority is reportedly to form a broad government that can adopt a budget for next year and has a better chance of surviving a potential vote of no confidence.
The announcement will take place at the earliest at 5 pm on Monday, due to Monday being a day of mourning for the victims of the cyclone disaster in the French island group Mayotte on December 14.
The previous government fell at the beginning of December after a vote of no confidence.
