Coalition whip Ofir Katz has formally submitted the proposal, which is supported by all parties in the coalition, including Prime Minister Netanyahu's Likud.
On Tuesday, several opposition parties submitted similar proposals, accelerating the government's action, The Times of Israel writes.
According to the proposal, an election can be held no earlier than three months after approval and no later than five months after the dissolution, the newspaper writes.
A first vote could be held as early as Monday, and the proposal is believed likely to be adopted.
It was already known that the election had to be held no later than October 27th.
