On Monday evening, Netanyahu called for forming a “broad government” while ruling out any cooperation with the country’s two Arab parties:
“The Israeli public does not want a government that depends on Ra’am and the Joint List,” he wrote in a post on X, accusing the two parties of supporting terrorism and opposing the principle of a Jewish state.
He wrote that Likud, under his leadership as prime minister, was ready to form a government with all parties that “do not support terrorism.”
The statement came shortly after reports that the four parties in the opposition bloc were expected to meet on Tuesday for the first time since last week’s election.
Neither of the two main blocs received enough votes in the national election to form a parliamentary majority.
The opposition bloc voted to oust Netanyahu and launch a government investigation into the handling of the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023.
Israel’s two Arab parties made major gains, winning 19 seats in the 120-seat Knesset.
