Rutte aims to have new industrial commitments in place for NATO's annual summit in Ankara, Turkey, in July, the Financial Times reports, citing sources.
The NATO chief wants to create conditions to reduce dependence on weapons from the United States through increased production, and for all NATO countries to be able to meet the target of 5 percent of GDP in defense spending.
The companies have been asked to share investment plans and prospects for increased production, with a focus on air defense and long-range missiles.
In addition to Saab, Rheinmetall, Safran, Airbus, MBDA, and Leonardo will participate in the meeting.
