This is at least the third time this year that a major power outage has occurred in Cuba.
"There has been a complete disconnection from the national power system," electricity company UNE writes on X, adding that the causes of the outage are being investigated.
An oil shortage in the country has previously been reported as one of the reasons for outages in the country's fuel-fired power plants. The oil shortage has worsened since the United States decided to cut off oil supplies to Cuba.
