Näslund explained the tactics in Viaplay's broadcast. She said that the importance was to get a good start, to get a gap on the other skaters, and then be able to focus on the actual skating in peace and quiet.
That's exactly what happened in Italy – at least initially.
The star was dominant in the quarterfinals and semifinals, but when she threw the baton in the final, the start was not as desired. This put the 29-year-old in a different situation compared to earlier in the season.
Now she was forced to chase placements; the race became more stressful, and she finished in third place behind Marielle Berger Sabbatel, France, and Fanny Smith, Switzerland.

Sandra Näslund has nevertheless had a great start to the season – the star's comeback after two seasons that were ruined by injuries – and tops the total with 360 points, 115 ahead of second place Fanny Smith.
David Mobärg, third from Arosa, was eliminated in the round of 16. Erik Mobärg also went out in the round of 16.
