Plans to extend opening hours have been known for some time. Now, according to a press release, the tech-heavy Nasdaq stock exchange has set a preliminary date of December 6, writes Dagens Industri.
It will be possible to trade shares 23 hours a day, with a break between 8 and 9 p.m. US East Coast time, five days a week.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) must first give approval.
Already today, Nasdaq in the US has pre- and post-market trading that covers large parts of the day.
Other exchanges are also considering similar ideas. Sources recently told Bloomberg that the Hong Kong Stock Exchange is considering evening trading.
