Myhlback said the other day that he caught a cold from last week's World Cup competitions in Trondheim (in traditional skiing).
It is now clear that the illness will stop him from the season premiere of the cross-country ski cup, Ski Classics, in Bad Gastein, Austria.
If you are sick, you should not compete. Alvar really wanted to go but he is not healthy so there is no point in taking chances, says Anton Järnberg, team manager for Myhlback's team Lager 157, to SVT.
19-year-old Alvar Myhlback made a real breakthrough last year, not least through his victory in Vasaloppet. This season he has already shown brilliant form on shorter distances. Among other things, he took an unexpected third place in the World Cup sprint in Trondheim last week.
The illness shouldn't keep him off the ski slopes for too long, says Anton Järnberg.
We thought it would clear up and it wasn't very serious, but he's still not completely healthy.
The long-distance race kicks off on Saturday with a team pace race over 7 kilometers. The season then kicks off in earnest the following day with the 36-kilometer Bad Gastein Criterium.
