While the cross-country team prepares for another World Cup weekend, this week in Davos, Switzerland, Alvar Myhlback is back where he feels most comfortable: in the long-distance cup.
The question, however, is whether he will be able to start when the Ski Classics season gets underway in Bad Gastein, Austria this weekend.
Yes, it's a bit in the danger zone. But I like being in the danger zone, that's where all the fun happens. But it's clear that it wasn't the perfect scenario this week. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because this is a weekend I've really been looking forward to. So I hope I'll be at the start, says Alvar Myhlback at Wednesday's digital press conference.
On the podium with Klæbo
Myhlback made a splash when he came third in the classic sprint in Trondheim last week, only beaten by Norwegians Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Oskar Opstad Vike.
It was a fantastic weekend, says the 19-year-old. But he would have liked to have been without the cold that followed.
I'm very happy with the weekend in Trondheim, I couldn't have been more happy. We'll see how this turns out, but I'm very happy with the weekend anyway.
Jumpstarts with team competition
The long-distance cup begins on Saturday with a shorter team competition, 7 kilometers, before it gets going in earnest with Sunday's Bad Gastein Criterium - 36 kilometers of skiing across the Austrian Alps.
This is what I have been training for all summer, so even though my body has felt really good in the traditional races, I have always had the feeling that I want to show what I am capable of here, says Myhlback.
