Trump announced on Tuesday that American Open AI and Oracle, as well as Japanese Softbank, under the name Stargate, will invest up to 500 billion dollars in infrastructure for artificial intelligence.

But Musk questions the investment and writes on X that the companies "don't have the money" promised.

"Softbank has secured far less than 10 billion dollars. I know this through a credible source," Musk writes.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Softbank – intended to be the main sponsor of the project – has directly accessible assets of around 30 billion dollars.

Tech company Open AI, which Musk helped found but left in 2018, was not mentioned in Musk's criticism – but he and Open AI's CEO Sam Altman have several unresolved legal conflicts between them.

Stargate is planned to start building data centers and the electricity production needed to develop AI technology, initially in the state of Texas.
