Malmö Museum remade the presentation of the exhibition "Welcome to Sweden" at Malmöhus Castle and, among other things, enlarged six portraits. To assist, they took an AI tool that was supposed to improve the quality of the images. Even a beauty filter was used.
The result was portraits of Holocaust survivors with, among other things, lipstick, eyeliner, and plucked eyebrows, reports Sydsvenskan.
The exhibition manager Samuel Thelin tells that the staff had an internal discussion about the images early on.
We replaced one directly, it looked distorted when we received it. But the others thought we were holding on to something, he says to the newspaper.
A bit later, they decided to replace three more.
It didn't quite succeed this time. Now we're doing a retake, says Samuel Thelin.
The unit manager Ingrid Fransson also regrets how the images turned out.
We didn't intend to distort anything. The idea was to highlight these people's life stories.
