In a courtroom in the American state of Nevada, patriarch Rupert Murdoch, 93 years old, faced three of his children who opposed his attempt to rewrite the plans for the family's foundation.
In recent years, it has been reported that Rupert Murdoch has become increasingly worried that Fox News after his death could abandon the lucrative right-wing direction to more reflect the views of two of his children.
Therefore, he wanted his eldest son Lachlan to control the media empire, and has argued that the reasons are economic.
If he had succeeded in rewriting the foundation's plans, three of his children would lose their voting rights. However, they would not be financially affected.
According to a decision by mediator Edmund Gorman, the father and son acted "against better knowledge" when they tried to rewrite the plans, reports The New York Times with reference to a court document.
Among the titles included in Murdoch's empire are, among others, the British tabloid newspaper Sun, the London newspapers Times and Sunday Times, as well as New York Post and Wall Street Journal in the USA.
