The municipalities are poor at reporting suspected economic crimes that they are exposed to, according to their collaborative organization, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR).
I don't think we report to the extent that we should. We are working on developing this, says Christina Kiernan, coordinator at SALAR, to Ekot.
The Economic Crime Authority has characterized the economic crime committed against the municipalities as being carried out on a scale that can be likened to industrial scale.
One problem with reports not being made is, according to Kiernan, that the crimes then do not come to the attention of society to the full extent and therefore are not followed up in the way that would have been the case with a report.
