The international airport in southern Germany, where many flights with transit passengers to Sweden and other destinations land, was forced to suspend operations after the control tower was evacuated.
According to a spokesperson, air traffic management warned of smoke at around 8:30 p.m., and the tower was evacuated as a safety measure.
Air traffic resumed at 10:15 p.m., and extra personnel were called in, according to Deutsche Flugsicherung, which is responsible for air traffic safety.
Munich is Germany's second-busiest airport, after Frankfurt.
