In two years, the number of children and young people sentenced to closed youth care (LSU) has quadrupled. In 2023, Sis had around 50 young people serving closed youth care. Today, the number is 200.

The number of convicted individuals is also expected to continue to increase, reaching a peak of 280 in 2025.

Now, Sis wants an additional 107 million kronor this year to resolve the crisis, according to a request to the government.

"This is to be able to meet the strongly increased need for places for those sentenced to closed youth care", writes Sis.

The significant increase in convicted individuals has also affected the availability of LVU places, since Sis has had to convert LVU places into places for LSU.
