Veteran from Dalarna has 16 seasons behind him when he is now getting ready for the World Championship in Trondheim, which starts next week.
But even though the podium places have become fewer in recent years, the interest around Calle Halfvarsson remains.
It's maybe because I've been around for a long time. Those who have followed me know that I've had a few clashes with other skiers. Above all, Petter Northug, where we had our battles that created a lot of interest during that time. Maybe it still lives on a bit, says Halfvarsson.
Another part may be the headlines that have been many over the years.
When it's going well, I have a slightly cocky attitude. And it's probably many who think it's nice with someone who isn't afraid or particularly withdrawn in their thoughts.
"Don't care"
He says, however, that it's not something he does consciously - but that he's simply not bothered.
I say what I think and I don't care much about what others think either. Then you should be nice and kind, but if I get asked how the day has been, I'm honest about how it's been.
It's not like it (the attention) gives a lot of pressure. There are probably many more in this team who have even more interest around them.
"Went better at home in Norway"
The previously mentioned rivalry against Northug often created the biggest headlines. But a similar rivalry between two skiers, or Sweden and Norway overall, is not as common today. Which the 35-year-old thinks is a shame.
It's clear that it would have been fun if there was a bit more chat between the best skiers. But it would be weird too if Johannes Høsflot Klæbo would become a cocky person, he's too nice in some way. But it would have been good for the sport if someone like him had been a bit tougher, because it heats up the atmosphere even more before the start.
Maybe the rivalry can increase with the World Championship in Trondheim. If nothing else, Halfvarsson is positively inclined towards our neighboring country.
I almost feel like I'm more liked in Norway than I am in Sweden. It might be a bit about what was against Northug and the attitude and response you had towards him. Which I thought was quite fun and I think Petter did too. It probably went better at home in Norway, I think.
