More people join unions - largest increase among the Armed Forces and the police

The civil service unions gained slightly more members last year. The largest increase was seen in the Armed Forces and the police, according to new statistics.

At the end of last year, the twelve TCO associations had gained 1.3 percent more members over the year, to a total of 1,280,164.

The Defence Union and the Police Union had the largest percentage increase, up 4.4 percent, while the Journalists' Union lost the most, down 1.4 percent.

A couple of weeks ago, the umbrella organization for academics, Saco, released its statistics. The 21 Saco unions had grown by 1.7 percent, to 986,513 members in 2025.

LO does not yet have any comprehensive statistics. At the turn of 2024/2025, the total number was 1,362,525.

All figures include non-working members.
