Floods and landslides have caused at least 30 people's death in India, where monsoon rain is now pouring down.

Eight people are reported to have been killed in the rain in the state of Assam and nine in Arunachal Pradesh, according to disaster authorities. Many died in landslides, the downpours caused landmasses to be released at high altitudes and fell towards a valley.

Five more people were killed in the state of Mizoram. Fatalities were also registered in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.

In parallel, several rivers are said to have overflowed, among them the mighty Brahmaputra.

The annual monsoon rains usually last between June and September.
