Fagerholm is the first to win the prize twice and she will also be the second ever to receive both the Runeberg Prize and the Finlandia Prize - Finland's highest literary award - for the same book, according to her publisher Förlaget.
According to the jury, the novel is a "wild, deep and original dive into the past and into growing into womanhood."
"Fagerholm skillfully combines historical events, interpretation and imagination. The turbulent time period can also be compared to the present," reads part of the justification.
Fagerholm's breakthrough novel "Wonderful Women by the Water" won the Runeberg Prize in 1995.
