The Environmental Protection Agency has allocated 142 million kronor to the country's county administrative boards, according to a press release.

The money is to be used for the work of strengthening and restoring Sweden's wetlands, focusing on peatlands. This needs to be done if Sweden is to meet various climate and environmental challenges, according to the agency.

"Several initiatives will improve the conditions for some of Sweden's most threatened species, such as the great snipe, the southern dunlin, and the natterjack toad, which are dependent on functioning wetlands of various kinds," says Annika Lydänge at the Environmental Protection Agency's species unit in a comment.

The money is part of the government's wetland initiative totaling 435 million kronor for 2025.
