Mohamsson Proposes Penalties for Schools with Unqualified Teachers

At least 100 hours of reading aloud per year in preschool and a penalty fee for the schools that employ unqualified teachers, this is proposed by The Liberals' party leader and Minister for Education and Integration Simona Mohamsson on DN Debatt.

The requirement of at least 100 hours of reading aloud should be written into the preschool's governing documents, to promote fundamental skills such as learning to read and write, writes Mohamsson.

Schools that have made a habit of hiring unqualified teachers will be forced to pay "noticeable penalty fees". The money will go to a fund and be used to educate unqualified teachers, she writes.

Mohamsson also mentions a complete renovation of the independent school system – "listed companies and religious fanatics should never be allowed to hijack our children's future" – and demands a new "community of values" that does not turn a blind eye to "the forces that want to restrict people's freedom”.

”Only by taking the school back to its foundations can second-generation immigrants become the first generation of Swedes. Only in this way can more people be given the opportunity to become a part of Swedish society and succeed in life. One could call it a policy for more Mohamssons", she concludes.
