Today's rules mean that decisions can be made to ban a child from leaving when there is a significant risk that the child will be taken abroad, where the child will, for example, have to enter into child marriage, undergo female genital mutilation or otherwise be harmed.
The Moderates believe that the current regulations still have gaps, despite being expanded in 2024. When an administrative court has decided on a ban for a child, there are cases where siblings have been sent instead. There is no exact figure on how many siblings have been affected.
There are reports that show a number of children, but there is also a hidden number, says Minister for Social Services Camilla Waltersson Grönvall.
The proposal means that if a decision is about to be made on a travel ban against a child, it should also be reviewed whether any siblings should be covered by that ban.
The legislation should be so broad that families who think they can do that should realise that it is not possible, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).
