In particular, it is the approximately 74,000 of CSN's 1.8 million borrowers who live abroad that the Moderates want to identify and put pressure on.

According to the party, the repayment rate for these borrowers is significantly lower than for those living in Sweden.

"Only eight out of ten who live abroad repay their loans compared with just over nine out of ten of those who live in Sweden. The significant difference affects the interest rate for everyone who has taken out loans for their studies via CSN," M writes in a press release.

According to CSN, approximately 8 percent of borrowers do not repay their student loans, and the total recovery debt amounted to SEK 1.3 billion at the end of 2025.
