The proposal is an expansion of the party's previous proposal that members of criminal gangs should also be disqualified from citizenship, writes Dagens Nyheter.
According to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M), the aim is to strengthen the value of citizenship and put victims of crime before perpetrators.
It is not reasonable that people who have committed serious crimes in Sweden should be able to become Swedish citizens and thus be protected by the Swedish state, he says.
The government has also proposed new rules for deportation on criminal grounds, which mean that in principle any crime more serious than a fine can lead to deportation for people without Swedish citizenship.
