The Moderate Party wants to investigate whether the euro should be introduced as a currency in Sweden. The meeting voted it through on Friday. But Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) does not think that the issue of changing the currency is current.

The Moderate Party has decided that they want to see an investigation into whether the euro should be introduced in Sweden.

It was one of the points on the party's meeting on Friday and according to the party board, the investigation will review all "relevant aspects, including geo- and security policy considerations".

Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) believes, however, that the issue of the euro is not current at present.

The issue is not on the table.

But let us investigate the pros and cons, she says.

The fact that the geopolitical and economic situation in the world is changing is a reason for this, she says.

Regardless, it would in that case be far into the future before Sweden actually joined the euro cooperation, according to Svantesson.

I do not see this happening at all in the coming years. But if one wants to and decides to investigate this and gets a majority in the Riksdag, it will take quite a long time, at least eight years, before the euro is introduced, she says.

Within the Tidö parties, The Liberals are in favor of the euro while the Sweden Democrats are against. The Christian Democrats believe that the referendum from 2003 stands firm and that "it is not currently relevant for Sweden to join the euro cooperation".
