League-leading Mjällby got a taste of a good start away against Degerfors. Already after 13 minutes, the lead goal was scored.
It was center back Tom Pettersson who stepped forward and steered in a free kick from close range to 1–0 for the visitors.
A good ball, of course. I just tried to get into the area and it sat right on my foot. It was nice, said Pettersson in Max's broadcast during the break.
Third straight zero
Despite being behind, Degerfors had their opportunities in the first half. The closest was Arman Taranis, whose shot just went over the crossbar.
But there were no more goals before the break.
In the second half, Mjällby controlled the game without allowing any major dangers from behind. 1–0 stood the test of the match. The team's third straight zero in the top division.
"Had some problems"
It's not a beautiful second half from our side, in any way. Still strong to hold on and come from here with three points, says Mjällby's midfield star Elliot Stroud and continues:
We've had some problems when we lead from the first half. Maybe it's that we get comfortable.
Mjällby is now a whole eleven points ahead of second-placed Hammarby, who however have one match less played before Sunday's derby against Djurgården. Stroud does not want to take anything for granted, though.
It's good. But there are many rounds left to play. One match at a time, and we'll see how far it takes us.
There are seven rounds left of the top division.
