Two missing German mountaineers have been found dead after Saturday's avalanche in the Alps in northern Italy, Der Spiegel reports. A total of five people died in the accident.

The avalanche occurred on Saturday as the climbers climbed the 3,500-meter-high Cima Vertana (Vertainspitze) mountain in the Ortler massif northeast of Bormio in South Tyrol.

Three of the people were found dead the same day and on Sunday it was confirmed that the bodies of two more missing people had been recovered.

Two men survived the accident and were taken to hospital after the incident.
