After Monsén crossed the finish line, he slammed a pole into the snow in disappointment. Monsén lost a lot of time early in the run and finished 1.77 seconds behind Swiss winner Marco Odermatt, which left him in a modest 43rd place.

The Swedish Olympic team currently has no male alpine skiers. This weekend in Kitzbühel there will be one last opportunity to qualify for the Olympics, but after missing in the super-G, Monsén's only hope now lies in Saturday's classic Hahnenkamm downhill.

On Sunday, slalom awaits, where Kristoffer Jakobsen - who has not managed to achieve a result all season - hopes to secure an Olympic spot at the last minute.
