At a press conference in Minneapolis, Walz said he had spoken with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Border Patrol Director Tom Homan and that "every indication" he had received was that "this thing is coming to an end."
"I hope that before Friday Mr. Homan comes out and says they're done and they're ending the effort," Walz said.
But Walz was not completely convinced, saying that despite Homan's statement that 700 federal police officers should immediately leave Minnesota, 2,300 remain on the state's streets.
Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse, was shot and killed on January 24. Authorities say he was shot in self-defense by a Border Patrol agent. However, according to U.S. media analysis of video footage of the incident, he was shot multiple times while lying on the ground after being subdued and disarmed by several agents.
Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three and a poet, was shot and killed by ICE officers on January 7 while in her car. Authorities claim she tried to run over the immigration officers, while critics say analysis of video footage supports that she tried to swerve and leave the scene.
