Previously, all travel was advised against within 50 kilometers on either side of the border between the countries. That distance has now been reduced to 20 kilometers from the border.
In Thailand, the new distance means that the popular tourist islands in Trat province, such as Koh Chang, Koh Kood and Koh Mak, are no longer covered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel advice.
Non-essential travel to the provinces of Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani and Songkhla in Thailand was previously advised against.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' previous travel advice was issued in December last year after fighting in border areas.
