Three people were shot to death yesterday afternoon in central Uppsala. According to media reports, there are links to gang criminality, which the police have not confirmed. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson notes that he does not know more than what the police have said, but that the violence is unacceptable in a decent society.
This highlights that this wave of violence is not over, it continues. It also highlights why all the tools that the police are now getting are so important, says Kristersson to TT in Valencia during a meeting with the party group EPP.
A 16-year-old boy is suspected of the three murders and Kristersson emphasizes the importance of being able to act early against young people.
They are extremely young people. It's clear that thoughts are racing, he says.
The act in Uppsala is "brutal and ruthless", according to Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (The Moderate Party).
We are firmly determined to push back the violence and turn the trend, he says at a press conference on breaking the recruitment of children and young people into gangs.
He says that the government is in contact with the police and that a special regional event has been initiated.
The police have increased their security-enhancing presence, says Strömmer.
