Over the weekend, a large amount of stolen personal data was published on the darknet. The information was stolen during an IT attack against the system supplier Miljödata in August.
It is information concerning just over 1.5 million individuals that has been leaked, says Sandra Helgadottir.
The leaked information is, according to her, "of various nature".
We have been informed that there were no protected personal data in the database as regards the public actors.
If protected personal data has been leaked, it would have been from the private actors, according to the information the investigation has received.
This is something we are investigating. It is a very large amount of personal data and it takes time to check.
Preliminary investigation ongoing
A group calling itself Datacarry claims to have carried out the IT attack.
A preliminary investigation into gross unauthorized access to computer systems and attempted gross extortion is ongoing. No one has been notified of suspicion.
The investigation is now focusing on identifying the person or persons behind this attack, says Sandra Helgadottir.
The prosecutor is now urging people to be vigilant so that they do not fall victim to scams after the data leak.
If you suspect that your information is being used by unauthorized persons, you should report it to the police.
Several companies
A number of companies are affected by the major data leak. Among other things, information about SAS pilots has been published online, reports SVT News.
In addition to municipalities and regions, several companies were affected by the IT attack against Miljödata. SVT's investigation shows that information has been published about employees at around 25 private companies.
Regarding SAS, it is information about more than 28,000 people from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway that has been published. It concerns information such as names, personal identity numbers, home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. Spot checks show that several active pilots have been listed, but also people who no longer work there.
From a security perspective, it is deplorable that this could happen. We are not just any professional group and there is a total defense perspective on this, says an SAS pilot to SVT.
Another company that has been affected is GKN Aerospace, which manufactures aircraft engines for the civilian and military markets.
