Midsummer Eve has been normally chaotic. Except for a serious assault, it has mostly been brawls and intoxication, says Evelina Olsson, press spokesperson in region South.
The police were alerted to the serious assault in Hyllie at 10 pm. The man was taken to the hospital by ambulance and a report of serious assault was filed. An hour later, a larger brawl also broke out between about ten people in a cottage area in Malmö.
There have also been some brawls at home parties. Unfortunately, it is often the alcohol that causes trouble, says Evelina Olsson.
Much alcohol
It is not only in Skåne that alcohol has been the biggest problem. In the police's nightly summaries, it has primarily been intoxication that has been the culprit. Assault has also been a common classification of crimes committed during Midsummer.
In central Gothenburg, a man was assaulted by two or more perpetrators. The man was taken unconscious to the hospital. The police also had to intervene in a larger brawl at Hästeviks beach in Torslanda during the Midsummer evening.
In Stockholm County, Midsummer Eve is described as somewhat calmer than last year. In total, the police have handled 830 cases, compared to 996 cases on Midsummer Eve last year, the police write on their website. 19 people were taken into custody according to the law on custody of intoxicated persons, which is also fewer than the previous year.
Stranger on the sofa
Not all incidents have been so dramatic.
In Simrishamn, a person discovered on Midsummer morning that a car had driven into the garden and mowed down about 20 meters of the adjacent fence.
In Leksand, a man came home to sleep and discovered that someone had beaten him to it. A man had entered the house and lain down to sleep on a sofa.
