The broad S&P 500 index fell 0.1 percent and the Dow Jones industrial index lost 0.6 percent, while Nasdaq's technology-heavy composite index rose 0.4 percent.
On Thursday, all three indices reached new record levels, and the past week became the best on Wall Street in over a month. The S&P 500 rose 1.6 percent, Nasdaq 2.0 percent and Dow Jones 1.0 percent.
Among Friday's winners was Microsoft. The stock rose 1.8 percent after the IT giant reached an agreement with the EU Commission on the company's video conferencing service Teams.
Partly Swedish-owned payment giant Klarna, which soared when the stock was listed in New York on Wednesday, ended the week with a small increase, up 0.4 percent. The stock cost around $43 at the close, compared to the listing price of $40.
