"After being asked for many years, I have finally decided it is time to tell my story on my own terms," Douglas said in a statement through Grand Central Publishing.
The 81-year-old actor, son of Hollywood giant Kirk Douglas, broke through in the 1970s on the television series "The Streets of San Francisco" and is best known for films such as "Dangerous Liaisons," "Wall Street," and "Basic Instinct."
"In addition to exposing his demons and setbacks, Douglas shares triumphs such as his successful battle with drug addiction and stage-four throat cancer, as well as his long marriage to Catherine Zeta-Jones," the publisher said.
The book, still untitled, will be released on October 6.
