The country's postal service, Correos de Mexico, will temporarily stop deliveries while officials try to clarify the new tariffs.
The background to the decision is the US's changed customs regulations. Previously, goods with a value of less than 800 dollars (approximately 7,500 kronor) could be sent into the country without customs or tax surcharges. But from Friday, the exception for smaller shipments is over. However, how the packages will be customs cleared, and how much, is still unclear.
"Mexico continues its dialogue with American authorities and international postal organizations to define mechanisms that enable an orderly resumption of services," the Mexican government announces in a statement.
Several other countries, including Sweden, have made similar decisions.
