The announcement comes after Mexico decided to grant asylum to Peru's former Prime Minister Betsy Chávez, which has led a number of Peruvian politicians to accuse Mexico of interfering in the country's domestic politics.
Chávez is accused of being involved in an attempt to dissolve Peru's parliament in 2022, and faces a prison sentence of up to 25 years. She is currently reportedly in a Mexican diplomatic residence in Peru.
Diplomatic relations between the countries were broken off on Monday.
