In May, an average of 70 people a day signed up for the donation registry in Norway, according to the Organ Donation Foundation. But that number has increased sharply. On Thursday, 312 donation cards were filled out, and on Friday there were 2,178.

This is 31 times higher than the average for May, Aleksander Sekowski, head of information at the foundation, tells Dagbladet, adding that it is "attention that will save many lives."

According to him, it can certainly be linked to the news that Mette-Marit needs a transplant to survive her pulmonary fibrosis.

Over 600 patients are waiting for a new organ in Norway, ten of whom are waiting for new lungs.
