The tech giant Meta is backing down and once again allowing the Cancer Foundation's advertisement for mammography on Facebook. One can imagine that the criticism that has been, has contributed, says Henrik Lysell, unit manager at the Cancer Foundation.

From and on October 6, Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, no longer allows political advertisements on its platforms in the EU. Within that framework, the tech giant considered the Cancer Foundation's advertisement with a message about not missing mammography to be - and it was removed.

But now Meta is backing down.

We have received the message that they have now made a different assessment, but exactly on what grounds we do not know, says Henrik Lysell and adds that from the Cancer Foundation's side, they welcome the message.

From our side, we made the assessment that this is not a political message, therefore it is pleasing that they make the same assessment.

From and on October 6, 2025, Meta will no longer allow political advertisements on its platforms within the EU.

According to Meta, the decision is due to the EU's new regulation on transparency and targeting of political advertisements - TTPA (Transparency & Targeting of Political Ads) which came into force on October 10.

The advertisements that will be affected are those that previously needed to be categorized as "social issues, elections or politics".

This includes: civil and social rights, crime, economy, environmental and climate issues, health, immigration, political values and exercise of authority as well as security and foreign policy.

If an advertisement is denied by Meta, there is an opportunity to appeal the decision via a support for non-profit organizations.
