The stars Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez made the difference when Argentina advanced to the final of the South American Championship.
The question is whether it will be Messi's last.
Only God knows when the end comes, says the Argentine according to AP.
Julián Álvarez, who normally plays for Manchester City, scored the first goal 22 minutes into the match.
Messi then extended the lead early in the second half by directing a shot from teammate Enzo Fernández. 2–0 was also the final result.
It was Messi's first goal in this year's tournament, after being troubled by an injury in his right leg. He missed a match in the playoffs but played the quarterfinal against Ecuador.
"Crazy"
Messi has scored 28 goals in the last 25 national team matches he has played for Argentina. The goal against Canada became his 14th ever in the South American Championship, which reigning World Champions Argentina last won in 2021.
It's crazy what this team has done, what the Argentine national team does. For those who are left from the older guard, it's more than impressive that the national team is in yet another final, says Messi after the win.
Uncertain future
The future in the national team is uncertain for the 37-year-old Messi.
As I've said before, I intend to continue. I take it day by day without thinking about what's waiting in the future or if I'll continue or not. I'm 37 years old and only God knows when the end comes, he says according to AP.
But Messi knows that the end is approaching.
I'm handling it like I have in the last championships, these are the last battles and I'm enjoying them to the fullest, he says to TyC Sports according to AFP.
On Wednesday night, Swedish time, Colombia and Uruguay meet in semifinal two.
