Up to 2.22 meters, Lycke Holm jumped faultlessly, before he failed on the first and second attempt at 2.24.
On the third attempt, Lycke Holm cleared 2.24 meters and, together with Mikolaj Szczesny, Poland, and Matteo Sioli, Italy, had to jump for the medals at 2.26 meters.
Then the Swede failed on all attempts.
Right now, I'm most disappointed that it wasn't more, because I felt that I had a chance at the gold. I went in with the intention of trying to win this. It's fun to "peak" and so on, but I felt that I had more in me, says Lycke Holm in SVT's broadcast.
But I think that when I get to process this a bit, it will feel very nice. And maybe also feel like I want to continue with this going forward.
Both Szczesny and Sioli cleared 2.26 meters, and competed for the gold at 2.28. Then the Italian drew the longest straw and won, after also clearing 2.30 meters.
Lycke Holm also competed in long jump at the championship, but was then eliminated in the qualifying round. Something that, however, may have helped in the high jump.
I was seeking revenge.
