Saturday's competition over 10 kilometers and two shootings was the third in a row at the World Championship where Sweden missed a medal. On Wednesday, it was a sixth place in the mixed relay and on Friday, Ella Halvarsson was the best Swedish woman in the women's sprint with a ninth place.
In the men's sprint, all Swedish athletes finished outside the top-10. Jesper Nelin was the best Swedish athlete on a 14th place after shooting full in prone but missing in standing.
The 32-year-old was still satisfied.
It's perfect to get a good starting position. Sprint is not my favorite race. I like pursuit and mass start the most, says Nelin to SVT.
Martin Ponsiluoma had a tough day and missed three in prone and two in standing, thus half of his ten shots. He became 27th. Sebastian Samuelsson became 24th after shooting full in prone but missing two in standing.
Norwegian star Johannes Thingnes Bø took the gold, his first medal in this year's World Championship and a total of 21st World Championship gold. The 31-year-old thus made history and surpassed his compatriot and legend Ole Einar Bjørndalen as the male biathlete who has taken the most World Championship golds.
It was a goal for this championship, and now I managed it in the sprint with an extremely good race, he says to Norwegian TV2.
The race was Thingnes Bø's last World Championship sprint since he is retiring after the season.
American Campbell Wright took silver and Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet took bronze.
On Sunday, the women and men will compete in pursuit with starts at 12.05 and 15.05 respectively.
