A child who visited the pediatric emergency department at Karolinska in Huddinge on Monday was infected with measles, reports P4 Stockholm. According to the radio, 30 children and their guardians have been contacted as they have been exposed to the infection.
Karolinska announces on its website that in cases where people lack or have poor immunity, they are offered treatment – either vaccination or immunoglobulin.
The child was infected abroad and fell ill after returning home. According to the radio, Region Stockholm assesses that it is only a single case of foreign infection.
Measles is a highly contagious disease that, among other things, causes high fever and rash on the body. A person who falls ill is contagious for up to four days before the characteristic rash appears on the skin.
