With a fine reception followed by a distinct finish, Mbappé set 1–0 away against Atalanta already in the tenth minute. A long-awaited goal both for the Frenchman – who has not been shining as usual since the summer move from Paris Saint-Germain – and for Real, who had started the Champions League season shakily.
It would get worse.
After just over half an hour of play, Mbappé was sitting on the pitch with some kind of injury. Shortly afterwards, he was substituted.
Three heavy points
As if that weren't enough, Atalanta equalized on a penalty just before the break.
But from the sidelines, Kylian Mbappé could at least see his team take three important points in the end.
Real Madrid, Champions League winners last year, came to the match with three losses out of five possible. The play didn't sparkle this evening either, but sometimes you get far with individual skill.
Vinicius Júnior slammed in 2–1 in the 56th minute. Jude Bellingham increased to 3–1 three minutes later.
Ademola Lookman reduced for Atalanta, but Real held on – even if it was with bare fright: Mateo Retegui missed an open goal for the home team in the absolute final seconds of the match.
Salah's 50th
Liverpool's successful autumn season continues simultaneously. Away against Girona, the sixth consecutive win in the Champions League came after Mohamed Salah decided on a penalty with the only goal of the match – the Egyptian's 50th in Champions League contexts. Liverpool tops both the Premier League and the Champions League.
For Swedish attacking star Viktor Gyökeres and his Sporting Lissabon, things are going tough right now. Away against Gustaf Nilsson's Club Brygge, the fourth consecutive loss came for the Portuguese team, when Dane Casper Nielsen decided for Brygge with his 2–1 goal with ten minutes left to play.
Gyökeres has been pouring in goals this autumn but has now gone goalless from three of the last four matches.
