A thousand people have been evacuated in southern Guatemala after a volcano began spewing out lava, ash, and rocks.
An additional 30,000 people risk having to leave their homes if the eruption grows, the authorities report.
Volcán de Fuego, the "Fire Volcano", is one of Central America's most active. In 2018, 215 people died after an eruption where many villages and buildings were buried under ash, rocks, and toxic gases.
Last time, it took the disaster agency a while to understand how serious the eruption was, which meant that the alert level was not quickly enough raised to include evacuations.
