A Marine who was granted custody of a baby who survived a U.S. attack in Afghanistan has had custody of the child granted to him by his wife.

The girl was found in 2019 after her parents were killed in a US strike on al-Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan. She was seriously injured and taken to the US for treatment. A Marine later filed for custody and adopted her in 2020.

Two years later, an Afghan couple sought to annul the adoption after the man claimed to be the brother of one of the girl's parents. The couple cited Afghan law.

A US court has ruled that the Afghan couple - who have not agreed to a DNA test - have failed to prove they have a right to custody of the child. The girl is therefore allowed to remain in the US.
