Marika Domanski Lyfors, who was affected by cancer last year, leaves the job as national team manager after 17 years. She will remain in the women's national team as a senior advisor. We have been very keen on the fact that we want to keep her in our organization, says the association's football manager Kim Källström.

65-year-old Marika Domanski Lyfors has, apart from a short stay abroad, been a part of the Swedish women's national football team since 1991. After roles as guardian, assistant national team captain and national team captain, she has had a management role since 2008.

Now she is changing position again and becomes senior for the women's national team's staff.

Connected to the illness

It is, of course, connected to the very sad illness that Marika has, but we have been very keen to keep her in our organization. We want to keep her close to our women's national team, says the association's football manager Kim Källström when the women's national team's squad for the Nations League semi-finals against Spain is presented.

"In the role, I release the operational parts, so I can focus on what are my strengths - being close to players and leaders", says Marika Domanski Lyfors in a press release from the Swedish Football Association (SvFF).

Magnus Andersson, long-time coordinator in the national team, is now taking the step up as team manager. He gets extended decision-making power and personnel responsibility there, writes the association.

Last spring, the news came that Domanski Lyfors had been affected by cancer. She has herself told that she will never become completely healthy, the malignant brain tumor cannot be operated on, and SvFF is therefore at peace with the new solution, where she releases parts of the management responsibility.

Leadership staff ready

Thus, the entire leadership staff around the new national team captain Tony Gustavsson is also in place.

I am incredibly happy about the role we get Marika in now. I look very much forward to doing the first gathering with her because we all know how much she has meant for this team, says Tony Gustavsson.

Sweden plays away against Spain on October 24 and at home at Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg on October 28.
