Rubio will meet with officials in Reykjavik to “discuss economic and security cooperation,” according to a press release from the US State Department.
Before leaving, Rubio described the island as a “good friend of the United States” and said the visit followed several conversations with NATO allies.
The visit comes two weeks after the US, Denmark and Greenland signed an agreement in New York under which the US will build two “very large” military bases in Greenland.
